Hiring for your agency? Take action when it ‘hurts’ 🤕

Bring on new talent when demand outpaces manpower

Welcome back to The Agency CEO (by me, Jesse Gilmore at Niche in Control).

Every Thursday, I send you a quick 10-minute read on the tools, tactics, and systems that the top 1% of agency owners have used to scale their businesses to 8-figures and beyond.

This week, we’re talking about hiring. And not just hiring — but hiring when the time is right.

Let’s dive in 👇

“You only want to hire an employee when you have an ongoing need that will not go away and you have the funds to pay them. Always be cognizant of not rushing to hire an employee. There are too many added taxes, costs, and risks involved with hiring employees to make it a go-to solution for every problem.”

To Hire or Not to Hire, That is the Question

It’s both exciting and stressful to even think about hiring a new employee for your agency.

The right move at the right time can pay dividends. But the wrong move can cost you now and in the future.

These steps will improve your chance of hiring the right employee at the right time:

  1. Evaluate financial stability: Ensure your agency has the financial stability to support a new employee. Don’t forget about hidden costs such as taxes, insurance, and benefits.

Why it’s a must: Without financial stability, you risk overextending your resources and jeopardizing your business operations.

  2. Assess the nature of the need: Determine if the need is ongoing or temporary. If it’s a temporary need, consider contractors or vendors instead of direct hires.

Why it’s a must: Misjudging the nature of the need can lead to unnecessary expenses and inefficiencies in your staffing strategy.

  3. Consider expertise: Hire employees when long-term, dependable expertise is required, especially if maintaining confidentiality is crucial for your business.

Why it’s a must: Securing the right expertise ensures sustained growth and protects sensitive information within your agency.

  4. Build a structured hiring funnel: Use a systematic hiring process with clear job descriptions, performance measurements, and thorough candidate screening.

Why it’s a must: A structured hiring process increases the likelihood of selecting candidates who meet your specific needs and expectations.

  5. Focus on culture fit: Hiring the wrong person can have ripple effects throughout your agency. Candidates must align with your agency’s culture and values to maintain a healthy work environment.

Why it’s a must: A good culture fit promotes a cohesive and productive workplace, which reduces turnover and enhances team morale.
