Performance management = retention of high performers ⭐

Don’t lose your top performers to the competition

Welcome back to The Agency CEO (by me, Jesse Gilmore at Niche in Control).

Every Thursday, I send you a quick 10-minute read on the tools, tactics, and systems that the top 1% of agency owners have used to scale their businesses to 7-figures and beyond.

This week, we dive into performance management and how it directly impacts retaining your top performers.

Let’s dive in 👇

“If you want an organization that is self-forming, self-motivating, and focused on performance, your team needs you to lead the way. Leading by example and modeling the behaviors and actions that you want in your organization is the quickest way to achieve organizational alignment.”

High Performers Need High Standards

All high performers have one thing in common: they thrive in environments with high standards.

And that leads us to the million-dollar question…

What’s the best way to keep these individuals motivated?

Here are some simple, yet powerful, ideas to implement today.

  1. Track KPIs and OKRs: High-performing employees are driven by clear goals and measurable outcomes. Track key performance indicators (KPIs) and objectives and key results (OKRs) to create a transparent system where everyone knows what is expected.

The impact: This clarity motivates high performers and sets a clear benchmark for the entire team.

  2. Ensure strong accountability: With high standards come strong accountability measures. High performers appreciate environments where everyone is held to the same standards.

The impact: Maintain high standards to keep top talent engaged and focused on excellence.

  3. Recognize and reward: High performers need recognition and rewards for their contributions. Implement a system that acknowledges their hard work through bonuses, promotions, or increased responsibilities to boost morale.

The impact: Recognize achievements to boost morale and motivate continued high performance.

  4. Align organizational goals: Align individual goals with organizational objectives. When high performers see that their efforts directly contribute to the company’s success, they are more likely to stay engaged and motivated.

The impact: Align goals so that high performers see the impact of their work on the organization’s success.

ACTION ITEM: Connect with two or three of your top performers to discuss these ideas and brainstorm on how to better implement them.

Don’t let your highest performers walk. Embrace performance management to keep them happy and motivated.
